Kwunatsustul Second Stage Program (trauma):
Tsow-Tun Le Lum programs provide healing through Culture & Ceremony and Holistic Therapeutic Programs. This live-in program is intended for Indigenous participants who are in long term recovery, currently working with a community counsellor or therapist, and have abstained from the use of alcohol and drugs for 6 months or longer.
Length of Program: This is a five (5) week live-in, co-ed, intensive trauma program
Addresses mental health issues associated with:
- Trauma
- Abuse: mental, physical, emotional & sexual
- Relationship Issues
- Grief & Loss
- Residential School
- Intergenerational Effects
- Coping Skills
- Burnout, Depression, Self Care
This intensive live-in program offers the following:
- Opportunities and experiences which permit individual and group sessions to facilitate the release of blocked emotions and unresolved trauma.
- Consistent support for the validation of trauma and resolution.
- The ability to identify the relationships between unresolved trauma and defense mechanisms, coping devices, survival techniques, and destructive behaviour.
- The provision of impactful approaches and healthy practices for addressing the challenges of life and acquiring spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional health and well being.
Therapeutic sessions include:
- Physical and sexual abuse healing.
- Traditional ceremonies, traditional healers and Elders.
- In-house Elders (on a weekly basis).
- Welcome Home Ceremony.
- Education/Information sessions.
- Group and Individual therapy, rebuilding and re-framing, men’s and women’s groups, psychological counselling, and art therapy.
- Daily journaling, physical and recreational activities, and craft activities.
Admissions and Assessment:
- Each applicant to the program will meet basic criteria for attending: such as abstaining from the use of alcohol and drugs for six months or longer.
- Must be seeing a counsellor/therapist on a regular basis (or a minimum of six sessions) who will continue to provide care after completing the Kwunatsustul program.
Each participant is carefully screened to ensure they are ready to benefit from from trauma treatment and have no other behaviour problems that need to be addressed first. They also must make a written commitment to complete the program; and make financial arrangements for travel to and from Tsow-Tun Le Lum.

Referrals to the program may come from:

- Community Service Worker
- Community professional
- Psychologists and Therapists
- Professional Counsellors
